Joint Replacement

Shoulder and Knee Replacement Surgery

Do you suffer from painful arthritis in your knees or shoulders? As the cartilage that lines the joints wears away, the pain and disability that accompanies this degenerative process can become unbearable and make every movement feel like agony.

Joint replacement surgery, also called arthroplasty, involves removing the damaged portion of the knee or shoulder and replacing it with an artificial joint that allows for pain-free movement. There are a greater variety of artificial joints available now than ever before, and our joint surgery experts will help decide which option is the best for your individual needs. To help evaluate your condition and determine which surgery or type of artificial joint is best for you, our doctors may perform arthroscopy.

When it’s time for joint replacement surgery, the board-certified orthopaedic surgeons at Greenwood Orthopaedics are experts in shoulder and knee joint replacement surgery, including:

Knee:

  • Knee revision
  • Minimally invasive knee replacement
  • Partial knee replacement
  • Total knee replacement

Our doctors may perform a partial knee replacement for patients who have arthritis on only one surface of the knee. In this procedure, only the damaged surface of the knee joint is replaced, rather than the entire joint, minimizing trauma to healthy bone and tissue.

Shoulder:

  • Reverse shoulder replacement
  • Total shoulder replacement

The type of shoulder replacement you need will depend on the diagnosis. Those who do not have damage to the rotator cuff tendons will typically have a traditional total shoulder replacement. If you have severe rotator cuff damage that cannot be repaired, you will likely need a reverse shoulder replacement, which allows the deltoid muscle to raise the arm, instead of the damaged rotator cuff tendons and surrounding muscles.

Don’t let joint pain hold you back from what you love to do! Our expert joint replacement surgeons in Indianapolis can help you reclaim your active lifestyle. Call Greenwood Orthopaedics at (317) 497-6497, or request an appointment online.
